It’s That Time Again

August 24, 2010 – 10:41 am
It's been over 6 weeks since my last update, and it's about time that that's remedied. In my defence... I'm sure I don't actually need to finish that sentence since I seem to start most my posts with it. This time though, I have some numbers to back that unfinished statement (...I've been real busy) up. Since breaking up from Uni (19th July), I've spent 36 nights in a sleeping bag (i.e. away) and only 29 nights in my bed!

Time for an Update

July 9, 2010 – 3:53 pm
Wow, it's been a long time since I last blogged. In my defence, I've been busy (as usual); but I've got a spare half hour or so now so I'll try to bring you all up to date! Here goes nothing...

Go Vote!

May 6, 2010 – 1:56 pm
If you're a Brit and haven't been living under your bed for the past month or so, then you'll know that today is election day. And if you haven't already gone out and voted, then this is your friendly reminder to go out and do it. The polling stations are open till 22:00, so make sure you find the time to take a trip down to yours.

How far has your surname spread? Take two

April 19, 2010 – 5:46 pm
Over four years ago now, I posted about the spread of surnames. Bizarrely, that's one of my most popular posts, and I regularly get 4 or 5 people a day visiting my blog to read that post (I'm currently ranked top on Google for "surname spread"). So it's an unfortunate state of affairs that the main link in that blog post no longer works.

The Seven Stages of Revision

April 15, 2010 – 10:27 am
Revision is currently looming over me like a rather nasty dark cloud, and it's one that's unlikely to be going anywhere soon (once I've finished the current bout of revision for collections, it'll be on to revising for finals!). So, to try and leaven the mundanity of my day, I thought I'd explain the seven stages of revision for you.

“Hello. I’m the Doctor.”

April 8, 2010 – 8:58 pm
Matt Smith got to say that in his inaugural show as the eleventh Doctor (Who), but soon fans up and down the country will be able to say the same thing. Why? Because the BBC are giving everyone the chance to be the Doctor themselves in a series of four adventure games that are being dubbed as "interactive episodes" of the fifth series.

Get Me To A Pub, Stat!

April 2, 2010 – 8:35 pm
After many, many hours toiling away in front of a computer screen (time that could have been spent researching more pubs), I'm pleased to announce that The Pubs of Oxford now has geolocation support (on mobile devices only).

Rock Off, Ice.

March 31, 2010 – 8:23 pm
What's this? Two blog posts on the same day, after a distinct lack of blog posts for the past few months? Can you tell I'm supposed to be revising? Anyway, I write to you now with a handy way to save on those pesky electric bills. And it's actually really easy; one of those things that seems obvious when you think about it.

Hej! Jag heter James…

March 31, 2010 – 2:45 pm
That's what I'll be saying to people in 483 days. Why? Because I'm off to another World Scout Jamboree! And this time, I'll be heading over to sunny (fingers crossed) Sweden for the pleasure...

Photoshop Magic?

March 28, 2010 – 9:50 am
A couple of days ago, Adobe released a video of their latest technology - Content Aware Fill. It's the kind of thing that, had it been released on April 1st, would have been written off as an April Fool's prank. But it appears that it is indeed real, and makes for a massive leap in photo editing technology.
